T. P. Tovenaar

T. P. Tovenaar is British-Sri Lankan writer and speaker born and educated in the UK. Following a lengthy career working in International News, in London, she moved to South Asia working as an International Technical Expert on Arts&Media for social change. Inspired by working with marginalized communities, Tovenaar’s writing focuses primarily on female identities and gender equality. Her first book, ‘Mum’s The Word ‘ is humorous novella about the cultural clashes between a British-born Asian and her immigrant mother living in the UK. In 2022, Tovenaar was the only non-American writer to win ‘The Roxane Gay ‘Raise Your Voice’ Masterclass Challenge’ for the US Women’s History Month. Her essay ‘Well-Informed Ignorance aka Racism in the Media’ was commended for its fresh perspective on Western notions of race and identity. As a writer dividing her time between the UK, Sri Lanka and the US, Tovenaar is interested in how cultures and identities define people and tell their stories.

Her current book Angampora Queen was longlisted for the Graetien Awards 2022
