Carmel Miranda was born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka and is a medical practitioner by profession. Late in life she challenged herself to write a book, ‘just to see’ if she could do it. Her debut novel Crossmatch was published in 2020 and went on to win the Gratiaen Prize for 2020, the State Literary Award for best English novel in 2021, and was longlisted for the Dublin Literary Award in 2022.
