Nicole Farhi first gained public recognition in the 1980s as a fashion designer. She created her eponymous label in 1982 ,10 years after having started the well known French Connection company with her partner Stephen Marks.

She went on to win The British Fashion Award for Best Contemporary Designer 3 years running and she became one of the best known fashion designers in the UK, an inspiration to a generation of women.

For over 30 years Farhi had to fit sculpture around fashion. In 2012, Nicole Farhi, having stepped out of her business , she become known equally as a sculptor - Her highly sought after and intrinsically unique sculptural works. Her understanding of the female form and its fluidity come through strongly in her works , even fixed in bronze her sculptures have a sense of life running through them , allowing the viewer to see them as living forms creating a dialogue between the inanimate and the animate.

The sculptor Jean Gibson taught Farhi during the early 1980s. However it was Eduardo Paolozzi who triggered her full scale pursuit of sculpture.They met during the mid eighty’ at The Royal college of Art’s foundry while casting her first bronze. Paolozzi became her friend and mentor.
